It’s easy to give advice, but living by it is where the real magic happens.

One thing I wholeheartedly believe in is the power of recommendations. Each req I make, whether it’s a handy tool or a game-changing read, comes from personal experience and ah-ha moments.

But I also LOVE receiving them.

Why? Because recommendations are basically shortcuts…and I love a shortcut.

Our time and attention are limited. So let’s focus on the things that work, right?

Bonus points if the reqs come from people we trust and admire. Good stuff.

And I’m sure you, same as me, believe in building on the good stuff—like kind words from clients, collaborators, and even friends.

1. Do good work. Then they’ll have something to recommend.
2. Ask. Yes, it’s a gorgeous thing to get thoughtful recommendations randomly, but we make our luck.Those who receive…ask.
3. Give recommendations youreself. The more thoughtful recommendations and introductions you provide, the more you’ll come up when people need to recommend someone else.
